Jumping rope is a great exercise that can be used to for HIIT or high intensity interval training. HIIT is basically where you go all out for 30 seconds and then go at a slower pace for a minute and then back to all out again for another 30 seconds. Do this for 6-8 times or so and you've done the equivalent of jogging for an hour in a lot less time.
Benefits of HIIT
Reduced body fat
Dramatically improved muscle tone
Firmer skin and less wrinkles
More energy and libido
Improved athletic speed and performance
Ability to achieve your fitness goals much faster
Marathon running or long, long bouts of continuous cardio can actually be bad for you in the long run. Excessive cardio training such marathons or triathlons may increase your risk of a cardiac risk. Now we are talking about miles and miles, but research has shown that one can get more benefits from working out harder in less time. We weren't meant to jog for hours on end, but run really, really fast on occasion when necessary. HIIT also increases human growth hormone (HGH) naturally without the shots. HGH naturally decreases after age 30, but they can be boosted with HIIT. High-intensity exercises also have been found to slow the aging process. Just imagine somebody who does sprints on a regular basis and compare them to somebody that doesn't exercise or somebody that does a lot of marathon running that is about the same age.
